My Photography

My Hometown, My Story, 2013.

This series was created in the process of my thesis work for graduation. I have been interested in photographing my hometown specifically (rather than small towns in general). I took a series of photographs and manually cut and manipulated them to make collages. I then scanned these images and manipulated the color (by changing some of them to black and white and leaving some in color) before manipulating them in Photoshop. This series will be extended upon for my actual thesis work that will be completed prior to graduation.

#TeamMadison, 2013.

Madison is a 6-year-old little girl that is facing a very hard challenge in life. She has a type of cancer known as Neuroblastoma, one that is not easy to beat. I met Madison through cheerleading. She was very shy at first, but it didn’t take her long to warm up to the girls and melt all our hearts. Madison has continously been pulling miracles out of her sleeve. Not only have I seen her conquer cancer twice in the short two years that I’ve known her, but she’s also taken down a lot of medical issues that have come about due to the cancer and treatments she has been undergoing. Even with the cancer and her body pulling her down, she is still so full of life and energy every time I see her. She truly is an inspiration not only to me, but every person she meets. Not only because of the battle she’s fighting but also for the smile she wears, the energy she holds, and the determination in her eyes as she does so. She has gone through more in her short 6 years than most of us will go through in our entire lives, and she never questions it.

This project has turn into a motivation for Madison to pull one more miracle out of her sleeve; a simple reminder that there are hundreds of people out there praying for her and wanting her to get better. I want to spread the word of Madison’s journey to also give hope to others, and allow them to see that no matter how hard you think you have it right now, someone out there is fighting a battle that you may never even face. Here’s to you Madison and the free spirit that you are.

What I Love About Sundays, 2012.

This is a series I did that were black and white film photographs that were taken in different areas of my hometown, that I found to be memorable of it (i.e. places that I remember always being there as a child). They also represent the "small town aesthetic" that areas like it hold. These photographs were used to make Lithophanes (porcelain tiles that you can see the image when it is held up in front of a light source) as well as published in a print on demand book that I created in conjunction of the Light Box that held the Lithophanes.

Abandonded Houses Series, 2012.

I love to take pictures of small towns and the “small town aesthetic”, and I could never figure out why. After sitting down and thinking about it, I realized it was because of the comfortable and historical feelings I got when I was in locations like these. I decided to do a series of photographs that, specifically focusing on abandonded houses that reside in my home town.
